Gamers across the country and around the world can now experience the newest in gaming from Sony with the PlayStation 5.
It’s arguably 2020’s the most anticipated console, boasting an 825GB custom SSD, futuristic Star Wars-like design, wireless DualSense controller and stunning 4K (8K ready) visuals.
The PS5 weighs in at four and a half kilos and 39cm tall, making it the largest gaming console ever.
The digital edition is just 3.9kg, although its height remains the same.
Hundreds lined the streets outside retail stores on Friday morning to get their hands on the hefty device, the launch looking quite different to previous generations.
Around the world, cities lit up to celebrate the launch of the next generation of gaming.
Video game reviewer and collector Emily Dalton – aka Retro Gamer Girl – told 9News the store was buzzing when she picked up her console.
“Everyone in line was so excited to finally get their hands on their very own PS5,” she said.
“There are a number of games I’m looking forward to playing, some of which are older games that have now had the next-gen upgrade, so they’re going to run at 60 frame.”
“I can see myself being pretty busy over the next couple of weeks!”
Astro’s Playroom comes pre-installed on the console, a great introduction to the impressive new DualSense controller.
The PlayStation 5 also launched with the Playstation Collection, a library of game titles featuring many of PlayStation’s exclusive hit games.
The standard edition of the PlayStation 5 retails for $749, while the digital version is $599.
The PlayStation 5 also launched with a short list of exclusive and previous-gen compatible titles, including a number of other games that have been optimised for the new console.
