Aussie game makers are set to receive a big cash boost thanks to the government’s new “Games: Expansion Pack”.
The Federal government has today unveiled extra funding to support Australia’s fast growing video games industry.
The new package is aimed at gaming studios with development budgets below $500,000, with funds on offer from Screen Australia up to $150,000.

Games over this budget will still be eligible for the Digital Games Tax Offset, which was announced last year.
The “Games: Expansion Pack” will allow Australian independent game development studios to access Screen Australia funding for the first time in eight years.
Ron Curry, CEO of the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA), said the new scheme was a very welcome addition and proved video games are an integral part of the screen industry.
“We expect to see accelerated growth for highly creative and skilled Australian games studios and practitioners,” Mr Curry said.
“Access to equitable funding levers ensures that Australian game developers can scale their businesses locally and continue to make their mark on the world stage.”

The video games industry has recorded over 20 pre cent year on year growth over the past three years, with the Australian sector doubling its revenue since 2016 to $226 million, according to IGEA.
Right now global gaming revenue is worth more than the film and music industries combined.
More information on the scheme can be found on Screen Australia’s website.
