Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath was a substantial expansion for the game, full of new characters, arenas, and a campaign that had long-lasting ramifications for the franchise. While the next chapter in the New Era timeline of Mortal Kombat 1 is currently locked up tighter than Queen Sindel’s miracle haircare products, several fascinating threads could be explored in an expansion. Sub-Zero’s rise to power has him focused on the cybernetic evolution of the Lin Kuei, Shao Kahn is busy stirring up a revolution in Outworld, and Shang Tsung is busy learning some new tricks in his current exile.
There’s still plenty of room for the expansion to go in a wilder direction, especially after the campaign ended with an expansion of the Mortal Kombat universe. Attack of the Ninja Mimes, perhaps?
Right now, Mortal Kombat 1 is steadily introducing new DLC characters to its roster. Invincible’s dad-of-the-year, Omni-Man, recently touched down in the game and Quan Chi will be added on December 14. After the nefarious sorcerer arrives, the next guest character will be John Cena’s Peacemaker, followed by Homelander, Ermac, and Takahashi Takeda.
