The world’s most popular first-person shooting game is about to launch its next big title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, all while breaking its own multiplayer records.
After all these years, Activision and developers Infinity Ward are proving yet again why Call of Duty is number one, with a preview of the game made available to fans across the weekend.
Players were treated to beta version of the game which included a tonne of multiplayer action across six game modes.
It was the largest ever beta session for the franchise, breaking all previous records across hours played, matches played and total players.
The game received largely positive feedback, with fans of the franchise sharing their thoughts on social media, including celebrities like Chloë Grace Moretz.
Moretz followed up her tweet with another, confirming her love for the beta wasn’t a paid ad.
Betas are typically released to allow the development team to tweak the game, iron out any bugs and note player feedback ahead of its launch.

Infinity Ward posted a blog thanking all those who participated and outlined a few changes which players can expect come launch day.
The incoming adjustments include enemy footsteps and visibility, various bugs and disbanding lobbies.
The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II game released in 2009 and boasted huge success, so there’s no surprises the studio has gone back for seconds.
In addition to the multiplayer aspect of the game, Modern Warfare II also comes with a single player campaign and shares the same game engine as the upcoming “battle royale” Call of Duty game, Warzone 2.0.
Activision says the new engine has been developed specifically for modern consoles and PCs.
A bunch of new features are coming to Warzone alongside the 2.0 release, described by Activision as a “fully revamped experience”. Warzone 2.0 is launching across platforms on November 16.
