Review | The Elder Scrolls: High Isle ‘a new land overflowing with adventure’

While many are waiting around for news on Elder Scrolls 6, I’ve been playing the next best thing; The Elder Scrolls: Online.
The Elder Scroll’s latest online adventure is more than just an expansion, it’s a stunning new land overflowing with adventure.
Yes, that may sound like a cliché – but it’s true.

Those new to the concept may not realise that Elder Scrolls Online isn’t just an MMORPG, you can play it entirely solo – first-person and all.
Skyrim, one of the biggest games of all time, is reflected across the ESO world.
While you might not be able to pick up every apple and sweet cake off the table and throw it across the room, the lands are as stunning as ever, the characters are just as interesting and the game is just as immersive.

I’ve tried to Elder Scrolls Online a few times in the pas, but it wasn’t until High Isle that I really started to get on board.
High Isle is something I haven’t really seen from the franchise before.
There’s hours of new content to take part in. From quest lines to group dungeons, hidden locations throughout the world and random events.
There I was, walking down the coast of High Isle, bumping into a few enemies along the way (as expected), just simply exploring, when out of nowhere a large ghost ship pulls up along the shore and starts spawning skeletons and demons on the sand.

It was thrilling to just stumble upon this, I’m not even sure if a quest was associated with this random event, but if there is one I’d do it again.
It’s these surprises that pushed me forward and made me want to experience everything High Isle had to offer – and I did pretty much all of it all alone.
ESO can be played in first-person, and many of the interactive elements from previous Elder Scrolls title are there – including grabbing a tea cake or two from the table. (Bethesda Softworks)

Despite having millions of players, ESO was a confusing title for many at launch, myself included.
Was it an MMORPG? Was it the new Skyrim? Eight years on it’s absolutely clear The Elder Scrolls Online has found its place.

Part of the main storyline for High isle surrounds these mysterious volcanic vents that have popped up across the land.
When one of these vents starts flowing, players gather in mass to fight the demons that protrude from beneath the magma.
The influx of players at these locations was a thrill, dozens fighting together and reaping the rewards.

There are some big names featuring in High Isle, Billy Boyd of Lord of the Rings fame plays the character Brahgas, a wood elf who teaches you High Isle’s new card game; Tales of Tribute.

Featuring alongside Boyd is Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean), Nighy lends his voice to the King of High Isle, High King Emeric.
The main ESO storyline also features the likes of Michael Gambon, (Harry Potter), Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and videogame megastar Troy Baker (The Last of Us).
Elder Scrolls Online is an exciting new adventure by the team at ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks and I can guarantee, so long as you’re an Elder Scrolls fan, you’ll have an incredible journey.
